About Us
Carroll Law Offices consists of two lawyers, Attorney William R. Carroll, Esq. and Attorney Benjamin A. Carroll, Esq., one full-time office manager/administrative assistant, and a number of rotating part-time legal assistants.
Attorney William R. Carroll, Esq.
William R. Carroll, founder and owner of Carroll Law Offices, has practiced law for 48+ years in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He graduated from Saint Vincent College in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, University of Notre Dame in 1969 with a Masters of Arts in Philosophy, and Duquesne University School of Law with a Juris Doctor in 1976. After completion of law school, Attorney William Carroll served as a law clerk for Judge Charles H. Coffroth and Judge Norman A. Shaulis of the Court of Common Pleas of Somerset County for two years, before he began the practice of law in Somerset County.
As a general practioner lawyer, William Carroll possesses a thorough, holistic understanding of all major areas of the law. In his many years practicing law, he has participated in innumerable civil and family law cases, and, demonstrating his criminal law expertise, he served as Somerset County's Chief Public Defender from 1990 to 2020. William Carroll represented the Somerset Area School District from 1978 to 2014 and has represented Shanksville-Stonycreek School District since 1998, Rockwood Borough since 1990, Summit Township since 2008, and Somerset County's Sheriff Department from 1996-2015.
He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Somerset County Bar Association, of which he is a past president. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania School Board Solicitors Association, and the Pennsylvania Borough Solicitors Association.
Beyond legal expertise, William Carroll served in the United States Army from September 1969 to August 1973. He is active in his local community and Trinity Lutheran Church. Being married for over 35 years and the father of four children, he understands the importance of a compassionate and personal approach to the law. He resides in Somerset with his wife, a notoriously noisy beagle, and one spoiled cat.
Attorney Benjamin A. Carroll, Esq.
Following in his father's footsteps, Benjamin A. Carroll graduated from Saint Vincent College with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2004 with highest honors and earned his Juris Doctor from the Duquesne University School of Law in 2007 with honors.
Benjamin Carroll brings energy and in-depth legal knowledge to Carroll Law Offices. Benjamin Carroll historically focused on Family Law, including Divorce, Custody, and Support; and has a current focus on criminal and municipal work, including currently serving as Court-Appointed Public Defender Private Conflict Counsel for Somerset County, and as the co-Solicitor for Somerset County.
Benjamin Carroll is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Assocation and the Somerset County Bar Assocation.
